I always crop out the less-than-idyllic bits – I’d have taken the shot of the white swamp flowers without the houses or soccer lights in the background. And it would have been a fundamentally untrue photograph. When I spent a summer in Mexico over a decade ago I took tons of pictures, and when I got home I realized I’d only captured the pretty stuff, and my pictures didn’t really look like Mexico at all. Not that I learned my lesson… anyway, thanks.
