She spoke at the announcement time at both liturgies, and we gave the special offering to the work of the Convent. Sr. Anastasia was quite talkative and informative, since she was alone. I bought a stole, reversible green and purple, which goes very well with a plain chasuble; when it comes to vesture, I am an unreconstructed Roman Catholic who occasionally wears the stole on top of the chasuble. [Come to think of it, so do Orthodox Bishops in the Byzantine Rite!] At any rate, I enjoyed conversing with Sr. Anastasia on the trip back to Des Plaines where she and Sr. Elena were staying with a very kind Greek Orthodox widow and her son. My grandson drove, so that gave us time to chat about Belarus, about religious life and religion in the former Soviet satellite, and life in general, her impressions of the USA, and all that sort of thing. She didn’t mention Bolingbrook, but she did mention St. Elizabeth’s in Glencoe and Daphne Cody. I think hosting them, making them welcome, giving them an opportunity to share about their life and work is certainly worth while.

Have a blessed Sabbatical, Heidi!
